Truck runs over and kills cyclist in Marikina

I have a question, everyone. Where do these truck drivers or rude drivers get their licenses? And why do we always have to wait for something ridiculous to happen before we act on it? From what I’ve heard, these truck drivers get a different class license and are considered “Professional Drivers.” Unfortunately, this truck driver took a single mom’s life while she was just walking her bike in the bike lane.

The victim was identified as Lorelie Cruz Melevo, who died on the spot after she got ran over by a truck driven by Jonathan Silverio, GMA Network News reported. The incident happened along Mayor Gil Fernando Street, at around 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

The report further stated that the victim was indeed in the bike lane in Marikina City when she got hit by the suspect. Apparently, the suspect claimed that he didn’t notice the cyclist. (What was he doing in the bike lane anyway?).

Moreover, head of Marikina police’s traffic division, Insp. Sanny Cortez confirmed that the suspect, who got detained at the Marikina City Police Station has been charged with a criminal complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

As said by the “We Like Bike Lanes in RP Movement” there has been a total of 196 cyclists who died in the past 10 years.

I feel really bad for her children. Our condolences to the bereaved family.

Take care, everyone.
