World’s FIRST Resort Airport To Open In The Philippines!

Should things go as planned, the world’s first resort airport will be completed in the Philippines by 2018!

Design - Mactan concept

The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) just broke ground for what is called the start of Philippine airports “matching the best in the world” through the construction of their new international terminal, expected to be completed in 2018. Renovation of an existing terminal is also under way, and is expected to finish in 2019.

The new resort airport is the government’s first public private partnership (PPP) program, partnering with GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) for the project, with a 25-year contract after they bid P14.4 billon for the project!

According to the Official Gazette, the new terminal could boost the airport’s passenger capacity to 12.5 million per year from the current 4.5 million.

Well, we’ll just have to wait for another three years to see how this resort airport will turn out!

What do you think of this? Do you think the government should do more of these to the rest of our airports?
