WATCH: Kit Harington Will Be Starring in a New Series Called “Gunpowder”

Kit Harington Gunpowder

The final season of Game of Thrones probably won’t air until 2019, but that doesn’t mean the cast won’t be busy. For example, Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, will be starring in another TV show called Gunpowder. Here, he will star as Robert Catesby, the gentleman who actually initiated the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

Here’s a little bit of a history lesson: in 1605, Guy Fawkes and a group of English Catholics devised a plan to blow up the House of Lords and assassinate King James I to restore a Catholic leader to the throne of England. Around midnight on November 4, Fawkes was discovered with 36 barrels of gunpowder and arrested. To this day, November 5 is celebrated as Guy Fawkes Day, where participants burn effigies of Fawkes (and other notable figures).

BBC One, which will air Gunpowder, said that the three part mini-series will delve “into the history behind the plot evolution, the selection of the team to carry it out, the gathering of the resources, and the obstacles they came up against. At the same time, a deadly cat and mouse game is played out with [King James I’s spymaster Chief Robert] Cecil’s [Mark Gatiss] ruthless spy network.”

Harington will star with Peter Mullan, Liv Tyler, Peter Mullan, Edward Holcroft, and Shaun Dooley.

There’s no release date yet.
