Fresh from her success as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Emma Watson is returning to the screen as Mae Holland in The Circle, a sci-fi film that examines the limits of personal freedom online. The film is based on Dave Eggers’ novel of the same name, and will co-star Tom Hanks.

The trailer shows Watson as a young woman who joins The Circle, the world’s most powerful technology and social media company. The company is led by Eamon Bailey (played by Hanks), who leads an experiment that questions privacy, ethics, and personal freedom. At the end of the clip, Hanks creepily says, “knowing is good, but knowing everything is better.
“
Watson and Hanks are joined by John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Ellar Coltrane, Patton Oswalt, Glenne Headly, and Bill Paxton. This is Paxton’s last film, as he passed away in February 2017.
The film is directed by James Ponsoldt.
It will premiere on May 3.
