We still can’t get over how fun Spider-Man: Homecoming was and how much fun Tom Holland seemed to have during the film.

In fact, his joy was noted even by the director. According to Jon Watts, “He’s as excited to be playing Peter Parker as Peter Parker is about getting to be Spider-Man.”

It turned out that Holland had to audition with 7,000 Spidey hopefuls. Of course, we all know that he ended up with the plum role, but there’s an interesting story to how he found out he got it.

Holland told EW, “I had been auditioning for five months. I’d worked so hard and it’d been a month since I’d heard anything so I thought, ‘Well, I haven’t gotten it.’ Then one day I’m scrolling through Instagram and Marvel posted this thing about finding out who the next Spider-Man is by going to their website. I thought, what? So I went on the site and it said my name. I freaked out. Everyone in my house was screaming. My poor dog was terrified.”

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige added, “I was on my way to the office to make a really exciting to a young actor and looked at my phone and saw it had leaked. That was not great but I guess it makes a good story on the press tour.”
