Travel to Cambodia won’t be so easy and affordable anymore during the “new normal,” now that tourists are henceforth required to pay a hefty deposit just to enter the country.

According to the Cambodia Ministry of Health, foreign travelers must pay a minimum of USD 3,000 (approx. PHP 150,000) to cover COVID-19-related costs that may be incurred during their visit—including mandatory testing and self-quarantine fees, potential medical treatment, and funeral costs.

A comprehensive breakdown of the deposit has been made public online, which we summarized below:

  • Mandatory COVID-19 test and quarantine fees (overnight stay with meals at the designated hotel): USD 165 (approx. PHP 8,250)
  • If negative, but on the same flight as a positive case — 14-day quarantine fees (hotel stay with meals and medical, cleaning, and security services): USD 1,281 (approx. PHP 64,000)
  • If positive — hospital charges: USD 330 per day (approx. PHP 16,500)
  • Funeral cost: USD 1,500 (approx. PHP 75,000)

Don’t worry, though, if you happened to test negative for COVID-19 because the remaining deposit after the mandatory test will be reimbursed to you right away.

As of writing, Cambodia has only 139 confirmed cases with no reported deaths.
