When in Manila and tired of the same old beef burger, why not give sausage burgers a try? At Size Matters, they serve flame- grilled sausage burgers that are not only bursting with flavor, but are HUGE in size.
Â
Assuming that Size Matters would serve big portions, I decided to bring along a couple of my good friends who unquestionably have big appetites, Martin and Gus. We made our way to the restaurant, excited for our lunch, but had a hard time locating the place because of small signage and the fact that it was on the 3rd floor of a building. Not easy to see when your driving through the chaos of Tomas Morato. Upon our arrival, we noticed that the establishment was pretty small. In fact, along with the outdoor seating, I’d say that it’d be able to seat 20+ people comfortably. JR dela Paz, co-owner of Size Matters, was kind enough to order our food, here’s what we had:
Â
Â
Blue Iced Tea (36 oz.; Php85) Apart from the oversized mug that the drink is served in, it wasn’t anything special. Don’t get me wrong, it was yummy, but it’s something that you can get in any other restaurant. However, like I said, the mug that the drink was served in was HUGE, this pretty much set the tone of the meal. I was thinking, if this is how huge their drink servings are, I can’t wait for the food to come out!
Â
Â
Jalapeno Cheese Spuds (Php70) The boys enjoyed this and pretty much gobbled it up. I thought it was yummy, but just realized that we weren’t served the Jalapeno dip. I guess we were too hungry to care, haha.
Â
Â
After a little while, Size Matters’ gourmet burgers started coming out: First, we had the Italian Burger Job (1/2 lb; Php235) Italian garlic sausage patty topped with caramelized onions and Monterey Jack cheese on an oat bun. Next, we had the Breakfast in Bed (1/2 lb; Php245) Breakfast sausage patty with bacon and fried egg, topped with American cheddar cheese and farm fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes on an English muffin bun. This burger was hands down our favorite. It reminded us of McDonalds’ sausage mcmuffin, but twice the meat and toppings. Lastly, we had the Double Patty BLT (1/2 lb; Php245) bacon and American cheese sandwiched between two Hungarian sausage patties topped with farm fresh lettuce and tomatoes in an oat bun.
Â
Personally, I could not finish sampling all the burgers because I was BEYOND full after one serving, can’t say the same for the boys though, they were going through the burgers like no one’s business. The patties are homemade and are 100% sausage thus I found it much more flavorful and filling compared to any burger patty that I’ve ever eaten.
Â
Â
Sausage Fest (12 in.; Php249) Schublig sausage links served in a bun.
Â
Â
It took a while, but we managed to finish everything served. I was actually looking forward to dessert, but seriously, I could not breathe. So, when in Manila and tired of the same old beef burger, what do you do? You give sausage burgers a try! At Size Matters, they serve flame- grilled sausage burgers that are not only bursting with flavor, but are HUGE in size.
