The family of Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago posted a thank-you message on the official Facebook page of the late senator. The senator passed away on Thursday (Sept. 29) and was laid to rest yesterday (Oct. 2) at the Loyola Memorial Park Marikina. The post reads:
“We thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who shared our grief over the loss of our beloved Miriam. Her wish before she passed on was only for her to remain in the memory of her own family. What Miriam seemed to have forgotten is that for all Filipinos she moved, inspired, or touched, she was family. As we lay Miriam to rest today, we ask you to carve a space in your hearts for the Iron Lady of Asia, the dragon lady, the tiger lady, the queen of popularity polls, and the undisputed campus hero. Remember her, as well, as God’s faithful servant, guided until the end by her moral sense to do good for others. We take comfort today in the words of the poet:
We pass; the path that each man trod
Is dim, or will be dim, with weeds:
What fame is left for human deeds
In endless age? It rests with God.”
