Reliving the old Christmas tradition of Quiapo

For the benefit of the various cultural heritage projects of Kapitbahayan sa Kalye Bautista

The Kapitbahayan sa Kalye Bautista atbp. Lugar, Inc., or KKB, is a non-stock, non-profit organization based in Quiapo, Manila, mobilized by students and adults from different fields who advocate for culture and heritage conservation.

One of the main initiatives of KKB is raising awareness on the restoration of a decrepit yet beautiful ancestral house in Quiapo, the Kasa Boix. Located right beside the historic Bahay Nakpil-Bautista, Kasa Boix is a heritage house along A. Bautista Street, built in 1895, where personalities like the former president Manuel L. Quezon once resided. Despite its current rundown state, one can still notice its intricate architectural significance that makes it worth preserving and relevant to the present generation. Today, KKB considers Kasa Boix as its headquarters, its home – where, in partnership with the current owners, it endeavours to make the house a center in Quiapo for bringing the people to the very heart of Heritage; within the walls of heritage houses and areas where people become the life of it- HERITAGE IS PEOPLE.

In relation to the efforts to raise awareness on the restoration of the house and reliving the old Chrismas tradition of the Quiapenses (residents of Quiapo), KKB celebrates Christmas through PASKONG QUIAPENSE: An Old Manila-themed Charity Ball and Mini Concert this December 13, 2014, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at Kasa Boix. Program will start with the ceremonial lighting of the façade and interiors of Kasa Boix, which is also considered as the first solar-powered heritage house in Manila. Guests are encouraged to wear Filipiniana as we turn the night into an old Manila-themed Christmas Party, to be serenaded by the KKB Troubadours with the classic Filipino Christmas songs. Entrance fee starts at Php 100 which will be considered as a donation that will go to the various cultural heritage efforts of Kapitbahayan sa Kalye Bautista like the Lakbay Lakaran heritage walking tours and the Pamana basic education project.
