Imagine what it must have felt for Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, who was crowned Miss Universe 2015, only to have it taken away after a few minutes. If you’re someone who has dreamt of this moment for months (maybe even years), it hurts. To add insult to injury, your crown was stripped in front of the entire world. When you see it from her perspective, you kind of understand why she insisted on her Instagram page that she’s “Forever your Miss Universe.”
But she has changed her mind, posting another update on Instagram thanking her supporters and congratulating Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, the true winner of the pageant.
In a controversial move, host Steve Harvey accidentally announced Gutierrez as the Miss Universe and Wurtzbach as the runner-up. It was supposed to be the other way around. Gutierrez was already crowned by Paulina Vega, Miss Universe 2014 and fellow Colombian, when she was asked to give the crown to Wurtzbach.
According to Gutierrez on Instagram:
After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world. Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this. I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes… Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world. I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe. The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS.
