Both Lorde and Carly Rae Jepsen have pretty much shaped quite a number of people’s tastes in music over the past few years. It’s not hard to imagine given that they became such hits and dominated the music scene for a significant amount of time. They were both young, passionate artists who shared their work with enthusiasm and love. Anything they put out always felt genuine.
Which is why Lorde covering Carly Rae’s iconic “Run Away With Me” is causing people everywhere to abuse their caps lock and exclamation point button (same here!!!). It’s no surprise, it’s like watching two incredible things combine into one extra-incredible thing! Lorde definitely has a different take on the song, but we’re all just giddy that she’s singing it at all. To quote Janis Ian from Mean Girls: “It’s like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs.”
Our hearts are aflutter. What a great way to cap off this week!
