 Sensory Overload

Hardwell, the world’s #1 DJ (according to DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ’s of 2014), wowed a jam-packed MOA Arena in arguably one of the biggest events this year, during his recent stop to Manila on the “I am Hardwell” world tour. The event, aptly dubbed “Go Hardwell or Go Home,” was organized by Bigfish Manila, and saw hundreds of fans and ravers in attendance to witness the Dutch DJ’s short but pumping set that definitely left the crowd wanting more.  So much energy! Hardwell urges the crowd on.

The local crowd was spoiled with a dazzling interval of lights and sounds, featuring the biggest mixes from none other than the world’s best. Hardwell dished out a number of his most popular tracks, taking us through an epic night with his signature brand of progressive/electro house, which was underscored by a hypnotic show of lasers, smoke machines, pyrotechnics and confetti. It was a large-scale production that set the tone to a night of quality music and pure bliss, making for an unmatched sensory experience.

The 27-year old DJ, who was taken under fellow Dutchman Tiësto’s wing during his early years of performing, lived up to the promise of a world-class performance that further emphasized his skill and mastery of his craft. Hardwell only kept building up the crowd’s mounting energy with one track after the other, seamlessly maintaining momentum with his renditions of Armin Van Buuren’s “Ping Pong,” Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars,” my absolute favorite “Apollo” and “Dare You,” until finally concluding his set with the widely loved “Spaceman.”

Much love for Manila.

A subsequent smattering of lasers, the relentless energy all around and in turn, beats that equally showed no signs of stopping were what kept us going all night. Perhaps all we needed were a few more hours of Hardwell’s mixes, as most of those present would agree to enjoying an extended set. Despite this, we definitely can’t thank him enough for bringing a bit of the EDM festival experience to our local shores!

Cheers to everyone who’ve gone harder than ever before, and who’ve had just as much fun as I did! I equally sympathize with everyone who has lost their phones during the event, as I was one of the night’s casualties as well. As they say, either you go Hardwell, or go home.
