Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451Â is an important book in contemporary literature, and it will be soon adapted into a TV film by HBO. It doesn’t have a formal production commitment yet, but Michael B. Jordan is set to star as Montag, the novel’s protagonist.
Fahrenheit 451Â is a dystopian novel written in 1953, and is set in a future American society where dissenting ideas are suppressed by burning books. The title is a reference to the temperature “at which book paper catches fire and burns…”
Jordan will play Montag, a young fireman who starts to question his role in society. He will co-star with Michael Shannon as the fireman’s captain and mentor.
Ramin Bahrani is set to direct, with Jordan serving as the film’s executive producer.
Fahrenheit 451 is considered as one of Bradbury’s best works, with critics praising its portrayal of state-based censorship. It has received a slew of awards and has received a Spoken Word Grammy nomination for an audiobook version which the author narrated.
It was adapted into film in 1966 by noted French New Wave director François Truffaut, and into a stage play in 1979. In 1984, Bradbury also helped develop a computer game based on the novel.
There is no release date yet to the HBO film.
