Whoaaa!

Inspector Gadget is making a comeback, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently, Disney is working on another live-action version of the 1980s animated series centering on the clumsy cyborg police inspector.

Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell who are known as writers on Saturday Night Live are deemed to create the script. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the billion dollar-grossing live-action Aladdin remake, are producing Inspector Gadget through their Rideback banner.

Inspector Gadget follows a clumsy cop whose body has robotic arms and legs, among other gizmos built into it. His niece Penny and her dog Brain would often help him track down his nemesis Dr. Claw, who leads a criminal organization known as M.A.D.  Don Adams voiced the original animated character, while Ivan Sherry voiced the good inspector in the more recent animated series on Netflix.

It was an American-Canadian creation produced for the syndicated market that was stable around North America in the 1980s and 1990s.

Inspector Gadget adds to Disney’s growing slate of forthcoming live-action takes of aminated films including Lady and the Tramp, Mulan, Cruella, Little Mermaid, and Lilo & Stitch.
