A few days back, stories about Atom Araullo resigning as a news reporter on ABS-CBN went viral on social media.
Today, Araullo’s resignation is confirmed.
According to Ging Reyes, head of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, via Manila Bulletin:
“Atom Araullo had filed his resignation from his reportorial duties but will remain an on camera talent of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs as an anchor in Umagang Kay Ganda and Red Alert. He said he arrived at this decision to be able to pursue other endeavors that would also help him grow as a journalist and as a host. He is aware that the news organization has included him in its future plans and will continue to assign him stories, coverage and events, befitting his position as a journalist.”
People had different reactions about this online.
Rumor has it that Araullo resigned due to his strong opinions about the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos, where some netizens called him out as “biased”.
However, according on a column by Noel Ferrer, Araullo decided to keep mum about his resignation and just focus on his two books.
Araullo will still be hosting on “Umagang Kay Ganda” and “Red Alert”.
