From Leeds, UK to Manila, Ph – Secret Sounds Asia in collaboration with Karpos Multimedia are thrilled to present award-winning indie outfit alt-J! Set to invade the blaring concert scene of Manila on May 19, 2015 at The Theatre, Solaire Resort and Casino.
In 2012, alt-J established themselves as one of music’s most intriguing new acts with critically-acclaimed 2012 British Mercury Prize award winning debut ‘An Awesome Wave.’ Featuring alt-J’s unique blend of electronic, folk and indie rock, held together by sharp songwriting, complex yet catchy melodies and enigmatic lyrics, the album was named BBC Radio 6’s Album of the Year. Carrying on their success in 2014, sophomore album ‘This Is All Yours’ debuted at #1 on the UK album charts and was recently nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammy Awards.
alt-J is an indie/alternative band from the UK, formed in 2008 after Joe Newman (guitar/vocals), Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards), Thom Green (drums) and former member Gwil Sainsbury (guitarist/bassist) met at Leeds University. Solidifying an art rock, experimental rock, and folktronica altogether, the band recorded and released their debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’ in 2012. Critically lauded, ‘An Awesome Wave’ won the 2012 Mercury Music Prize, an Ivor Novello ‘Album Award’ for songwriting and received three BRIT award nominations. The album has now gone platinum in the UK and sold over 1,000,000 units worldwide.
After the departure of former guitarist/bassist Gwil Sainsbury in 2014, alt-J continued on as a 3-piece and recorded their sophomore album ‘This Is All Yours’. Following in the steps of their debut album’s success, ‘This Is All Yours’ was released in September 2014 to rapturous acclaim and debuted at #1 in the UK charts. As described by Q Magazine, “this sumptuous riddle of a record is a celebration of everything but normality”.
Creating a distinct sound that illuminates them among other rising Indie artists of this age, earlier this December, the album was also nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammy Awards.
