90’s Kids, Did You Know That This Song Is Actually A Cover?

We’re so torn over this revelation.

In case you missed it, a meme has been making its rounds on social media, saying that every 90’s kid comes of age three times through the following milestones:

So apparently, our 90’s Natalie Imbruglia jam is actually a cover! It’s almost like the adult version of being told that Santa isn’t real, if we’re being honest.

What’s more is that Natalie’s version isn’t any old cover — it’s a cover of another cover. Torn was originally written in 1993 by Scott Cutler, Anne Preven and Phil Thornalley. That same year, Danish singer Lis Sørensen released a Danish version called “Brændt,” which means “burned.” Then, in 1995, the band Ednaswap recorded the track we all know and love, before being covered by Natalie. Phew.
