7 Reasons Why You Need to See “Suicide Squad” (Spoiler-Free!)

When Rob Mariano played alongside some of the best villains in Survivor history 6 years ago, he said that they’ve got an edge over the heroes because they’re “not going to be busy dealing with all the egos.”

He is right.

That’s the interesting thing about villains. They know they’re villains so they’re going to act like one. No pretensions.

Suicide Squad

And that is why Suicide Squad is so much fun to watch.

The premise alone is enough to make you want to see it. A group of misfits put together to protect the world. But the catch is they’re not just misfits; they’re the most dangerous criminals on the planet. This now begs the question: How are you going to make sure these people (and other metahumans) are going to do what they’re supposed to do?

Well, you put them under the watch of one badass woman: Amanda Waller (Viola Davis).

Without giving away any spoiler, here are reasons why you need to march down to the nearest theaters to catch this fun flick:

7. The world’s worst criminals put together to work for the greater good

There’s definitely something wrong with that. “Greater good” and “worst criminals” shouldn’t appear together in one sentence, but Suicide Squad makes it possible.

In a way, it’s like Survivor where people who hate each other are forced to work together to achieve something. How can you trust that the other will have your back? How can you be certain that Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) isn’t going to wring your neck the moment you say something annoying? Or that El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) isn’t going to unleash inferno the second he loses his cool?

That alone is so much difficult to do and yet you entrust the planet’s safety in their hands?

6. It boasts of an awesome all-star cast

SUICIDE SQUAD

With the exception of Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), it’s safe to say that this isn’t the most prominent of DC villains. Many (especially the not-so-die-hard-fans) may not even be familiar with the other characters. This is why it’s great that they cast these huge actors.

Will Smith, Viola Davis, Leto, Robbie, and Cara DeLevingne are household names and even if you’re not exactly the biggest fan of comic book movie tie-ins, these names might get you to watch. More importantly, they’ll help make these characters stick to memory.

5. A very impressive opening sequence

Do you know that feeling when you pass by a comic bookstore and see your favorite titles displayed on the glass window?

It’s like being tugged inside by a strong rope that your feet can’t keep up with each other because your entire body is being dragged inside. And you’re not conscious of the open mouth smile you have on your face because of the excitement.

That, at least, is what most of us inside the cinema felt when the movie started rolling.

4. The amazing Jared Leto as Joker

SUICIDE SQUAD Joker

The late Heath Ledger did an incredible job playing Joker in Christopher Nolan’s film, so anyone who’s going to put on the character definitely has some massive shoes to fill. It would take someone with sharp acting chops and lots of guts to take on Batman’s most notorious opponent.

Jared Leto has both (and perhaps more). The Academy Award winner is creepy to watch. He’s deranged and crazy and so much in love that you can’t help but feel a chill when he appears on the screen.

It would be great if he can share as much screen time as the others because his onscreen presence is so intimidating. Maybe we might see him in future films, like the standalone Batman film?

3. Beautiful, crazy, and lingering Harley Quinn

Suicide Squad Harley Quinn

After two hours, one thing became clear to me: Will Smith and Margot Robbie were the stars of the show. Smith plays the precise shooter, Deadshot, while Robbie plays the fun, crazy Harley Quinn who’s madly in love with the Joker. They had the most random funny banters. Robbie had the quick, witty dialogue, and one-liners that made the audience laugh a lot of times.

Robbie was a lingering presence. Her exuding charm betrays the notoriety of her character. She will surely be the one you’re most likely going to focus on in the movie. She is just so lovable.

Another thing worth noting is the chemistry between her and Leto. They are so perfect for the roles. Every time they share the screen you’ll be sucked into their deranged yet intoxicating love affair.

DC should consider doing a movie based on these two. Now that would be a great installment in their franchise.

2. Viola Davis in yet another badass role

SUICIDE SQUAD Amanda Waller

Davis doesn’t fail to impress regardless of whether she’s in the courtroom or the Pentagon. Her strong stance and her no-BS and get-it-done attitude makes her a formidable character in the movie.

She sets out on a dangerous mission of putting together Task X, a suicide squad, that takes the world’s most dangerous criminals out of prison and into the streets, in hopes of preventing mass destruction in the absence of Superman.

Dangerous is an understatement to describe this mission, but she needs to get things done and that’s why she leverages everything she has on these criminals: their fears, relationships, and deep-set fears.

She doesn’t care about anything other than the task at hand, which is why she’s willing to do anything, even dabble into the supernatural.

The question is will things come out the way she planned to?

1. Cameos that will put a smile on your face

Suicide Squad’s cameos literally made the cinema roar in excitement. While it’s pretty much a given who’s going to grace the screen because of characters like the Joker and Harley Quinn, it’s still a fun surprise. I’m not going to say it because I said I will not give any spoiler away, but I’m sure you guys know it already. 😉

Since the movie happened right after the events in Batman V Superman, don’t be surprised to see things/people that are related to the upcoming films in the series. I’m sure all you guys will love it.

Oh, and please wait for the mid-credits scene. It’s very important that you stay put once the movie ends.

I can go on and on but that would give away stuff about the movie.
What are you waiting for? Go. Watch now.
