10 Photos of Siargao That Will Make You Want to Book a Flight There ASAP

Nestled in the south east region of the Philippines, is this little island with a big reputation. A dream destination to many, this island possesses crystal clear waters, captivating rock formations, fine powdery sand, and more little untouched islands so beautiful, they can heal any traveler’s weary soul.

I, for one, have dreamed so long of reaching Siargao, but with its distance from Manila and the costly flights going there, it just wasn’t happening yet for me…until recently.

When the captain announced we were about to land, I looked outside the window and what I saw, sprawled beneath us, was an abundant field of coconut trees. Everything was emerald. “Finally, Siargao. We have met,” was the first thing I thought.

Summer season is almost upon us, and I am sure many of you have started (if you haven’t already yet) planning your adventures. Whether this enchanting island has always been on your bucket list or this article would only be the first time you’d be hearing of it, here I share 10 photos of Siargao I’m very well sure will make you want to book a flight there as soon as possible.

Is it just me or are trees more beautiful in Siargao? As we drove along the highway from the airport, I couldn’t help but notice the trees lining the way. So lush, so green, so…inviting.

If you’re kind of an introvert like me and prefer quiet, uncrowded beaches over party islands, you will find heaven in Siargao. The beaches are not only drop dead gorgeous (look at those pretty palm trees!), they’re also so serene. You’d definitely get your peaceful fix here.

8. See the world-famous Cloud 9 boardwalk in person.

You haven’t been to Siargao if you haven’t been here.

This is the famous Cloud 9 surf spot, and this is the boardwalk surfers tread with their colorful boards tucked under their arms to get to the waves. Surfers from around the world come here for the waves. International surfing competitions are regularly held here, too.

The ride was low when I was there, but on Siargao’s best days, the waves here are larger than life, barreled, and perfectly shaped like a number nine–hence the name Cloud 9. I take it as a word play, too, because have you been surfing before? Riding waves is pretty damn euphoric.

7. Find your own kubo.

I see it everywhere online–photos of these super chill huts sprinkled about the island. And look! I found one! Such a great spot to just sit, put some music on, open a few bottles of cold beer, and spend the day away doing absolutely nothing but just being present on this beautiful island.

6. Learn to ride the waves.

As a city dweller, I’ve always been quite drawn to the simplicity of island life. Someday, I dream of moving to some quiet island myself, but for now, I shall be content living vicariously through observing the locals in islands I visit.

In Siargao, the locals walk around with huge smiles on their faces. The kids play on the beach. Even the dogs seem to be extra cute and friendly here. When you do go to Siargao, don’t just snap pictures and leave. Observe the life on the island and discover why this place is so special.

3. Uncover the alchemy of the island.

Folks who’ve left their bustling city lives to move here, restless travelers who’ve found stillness here, or those simply still trying to find themselves.

2. Explore, explore, explore.
