UP Fair 2013: For the Love of Music and Love Itself

Speak UP: Loud, Proud, and Unbound

On Saturday, the final fair night featured the grandest night of all. “Speak UP: Loud, Proud, and Unbound” is one of the two shows that were coordinated by the University Student Council for UP Fair 13’. This event highlighted the best of both worlds when they put together the best rock acts and the ever growing homegrown hip-hop artists.

Among the talented rock squads are Kitchie Nadal, Sandwich, Moonstar 88, Mayonnaise, 6Cyclemind, Gracenote, Banda ni Kleggy, and Rico Blanco to name a few. They also featured upcoming bands like Circa, whose guitarist Arkho Andalis, is an Electrical Engineering alumnus of Rizal Technological University (my department and my university!).

Rico Blanco ignited the night with his 45-minute performance of his greatest and latest hits such as Antukin, Burado, and Your Universe. In spite of a few technical problems and some tension about the event crew and his techies, he performed valiantly. Sporting his Ati-Atihan get-up, Rico and his new band stunned the crowd with their energy and enthralling sound. He even borrowed a fan’s digital camera to capture the fervent groove of the audience.

Home Grown Hip-hop consumed the last quarter of the show. They kicked off with a whopping performance of a kid beatboxing and replicating impossible rhythm and sounds. Abra also performed his famous hit Gayuma. The last performance is collaboration between two well-known rappers, Ron Henley and Loonie which sang their respective hits Hagdan and Tao Lang.
