INSPIRING: 90-year-old professor spotted learning and using a tablet

No one is ever too old to learn!

Technology is a game changer for generations, that’s a fact. It affects everyone – including our good ‘ol men like Onofre R. Pagsanghan, or commonly known as Mr. Pagsi – a professor at the Ateneo de Manila University almost a century old. Mr. Pagsanghan is strong at 90 years old!

Through a Facebook post shared by Romar Chuca, he mentioned that one time that he was inspired by Mr. Pagsi. A man who “never fails to surprise him”, he discovered that day that the man who would say that was too old to learn how to use gadgets, well, finally gave in. He was spotted with a small tablet on his office table.

He captions:

“This is Mr. Pagsi. He never fails to surprise me. He’s 90 years old and is still a teacher here in the Ateneo. Once upon a time, he told us, as students, that he was too old to learn how to use gadgets. He never had a cell phone, and the way you could reach him was either you write and leave a note on his desk or reach him via landline.

Today was different. As I walked back to my cubicle from my class, I greeted my dear friend Sir Pagsi, and there in front of him was a pile of books on his table, and on top of it, a tablet. I stopped in amazement, and I asked him, “Sir, sorry if I stopped by, but I noticed that you have a tablet, and I remember you told us before that you didn’t want to learn about using gadgets anymore.” With a smile on his face he said, “Be patient with me, I am now learning. You know what inspired me? I wanted to read The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton.” There was an exchange of happy faces between us. Here was my old teacher, who originally thought he was too old to learn about gadgets, now learning about new things! What an inspiration!

I smiled, and told myself, that indeed, learning never stops. The reflection today was about “Finding God in All Things,” and boy, did I find God today in this insight about learning.”

Awww, isn’t this so cute to see?! We’re rooting for you, Mr. Pagsi! We definitely agree with Mr. Chuca – learning never stops!
