‘Ang Probinsyano’ Apologizes for Using Dingdong Dantes’ Family Photos on the Show

In case you missed it, ‘Ang Probinsyano’ committed a big mistake over the weekend: they apparently Photoshopped wedding photos of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera to make them look like wedding photos of characters in the show, and used the photos in an episode of ‘Ang Probinsyano’ that aired on August 8.

Fans of Dingdong and Marian quickly spotted the photos and brought them to Dingdong’s attention through social media, even pointing out that they had already committed the same mistake last year, also with photos of the Dantes family.

On Sunday, Dingdong released the following statement on Facebook:

“I have been deeply thinking about disclosing my response to the public. However, I owe it to the DongYanatics, to other friends who also expressed their concern, and to our family, to share our action regarding this.

A letter has already been forwarded to the production team of Ang Probinsyano. This was done, in good faith, to express my dismay and deep concern.

Courtesy and fair practice must always be observed especially in an established industry like ours. But whether or not it is done within the entertainment sector, we should always be reminded of the basic etiquette for online photo use and sharing that includes asking permission and/or citing sources.

I do hope that this won’t happen again to anyone.”

He also shared an excerpt from the letter that they sent to the show’s producer last August 11 in the full post here:

The producers of ‘Ang Probinsyano’ have since apologized for using the photos with the following statement:

“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” apologizes to Dingdong Dantes and his family and assures that there was no intent to disrespect or offend him and his family in the use of their photos in the program.

The production team commissioned a third-party contractor to create the photo props used in the program. It was not aware that the original of the photographs used were those from Mr. Dantes’ wedding and the baptism of his daughter.

The program is conducting further investigation to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.”
