#MAMnifying at 9: Rediscovering ASEAN’s Relevance in the Post-Pandemic World

UST MAM, one of the flagship events of the UST Asian Studies Society, plans to conduct UST MAM’s 9th installment through an online simulation this February 16-18, 2023. UST MAM academically mimics the salient meetings of the three pillars leading to the ASEAN summit. Delegates roleplay as diplomats of an ASEAN state in the meetings and convene per pillar to discuss a particular topic and attempt to solve it through consultation and consensus.

Specifically, the pillar topics of UST MAM 2023 are as follows:

  • ASEAN Economic Community: “Intensifying Inter and Intra-ASEAN Trade Adjustments to Stabilize the Supply and Demand of Staple Products”
  • ASEAN Political-Security Community: “Fortifying ASEAN’s Preventive Diplomacy amidst Increasing Great Power Interests in the Asia-Pacific”
  • ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community: “Equipping the ASEAN Youth with Future Skills for the Dynamic World of Work”

Through these, UST MAM aims to stimulate critical thinking and collaboration among ASEAN youth by involving them to discuss timely regional concerns, with the hopes to empower them as future leaders of the ASEAN.

Likewise, UST MAM will be inviting esteemed speakers during the Opening Summit on February 16, 2023, to further aid the delegates on their MAM journey. The conference is usually done onsite at the University of Santo Tomas however, due to health protocols, the event will commence online this 2023.

UST MAM is one of the few MAMs in the Philippines, which is why the organization partnered with several local and international organizations to champion ASEAN awareness and appreciation among the youth in the Philippines and ASEAN.
