Many ’90s kids have a special place in their hearts for The Princess Diaries, the film about a teenage girl who finds out she’s the princess of Genovia.

It became a hit when it was released in 2001, grossing $165 million worldwide (roughly P9.4 billion). It also catapulted the career of Anne Hathaway and brought Julie Andrews out of semi-retirement. A sequel, called The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, was released in 2004 and introduced us to Chris Pine in his first feature role.

Now, a third movie is set to happen, as the Hollywood Reporter announced that Princess Diaries 3 is in the works at Disney. It is now at the script stage with Aadrita Mukerji writing.

Reportedly, the third film will be a sequel of the two released movies and will not be a reboot.

There is no deal yet with Hathaway, but she once told ET, “I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it. If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”
