“Black Mirror” Is Officially Getting A Season 6

Science-fiction anthology series “Black Mirror” is officially returning with a sixth season!

A report by Variety on Monday, May 16, confirmed that the series will be coming back with new episodes, each to be “even more cinematic” than before.

“A source close to the production tells Variety that the latest season is even more cinematic in scope, with each installment being treated as an individual film,” the article read. “This is, of course, in line with recent seasons of “Black Mirror,” for which episodes usually exceeded 60 minutes and had incredibly high production values.”

Black Mirror Season 4

It’s been three years since “Black Mirror” premiered its fifth season, which featured the Miley Cyrus-starred episode “Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too.” At the height of the pandemic last 2020, series creator and showrunner Charlie Brooker told Radio Times that another season filled with existential dread might not be what the world needs right now. Brooker explained that he wasn’t “sure if audiences could stomach another season at the moment.”

“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those,” he continued.

It is still unknown when season 6 will air.

“Black Mirror” premiered in 2011 on British television before gaining worldwide popularity and acclaim upon moving to Netflix. The show acts as a social commentary on technology and the way it shapes and manipulates our lives. It has won Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie three times for its episodes “San Junipero” and “USS Callister,” and its interactive film “Bandersnatch.”
