Japan *Might* Finally Ease Border Restrictions Next Month

This is the news we’ve been waiting so long to hear. The Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has finally announced through a press conference in London that they will begin to relax Japan’s border restrictions by June 2022 and hopefully welcome all tourists back to the country.

The Prime Minister stated in his speech that the goal is to make Japan as accessible as other G7 countries, namely USA, UK, Italy, Canada, Germany, and France, which currently all allow entry for tourists with little to no restrictions. However, the policy change will be done “in stages” based on the advise of health experts. They will also be monitoring the rate of infections after the Golden Week holiday which ends this weekend.

Though it’s not a certainty just yet, this news grants a glimmer of hope to vacationers who’ve been longing to fly to Japan after over two years. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates within the next couple of weeks—fingers crossed that we’ll finally be able to visit soon!
