Student Makes PHP 51 Million Selling Selfies As NFTs

Who knew that pulling a prank on the Internet would apparently lead you to becoming a millionaire? Definitely not Ghozali, a 22-year-old Indonesian college student!

Ghozali has risen to fame the past week after he had decided to jokingly sell his selfies, which he took every day for the past five years originally for a video he was going to make, as non-fungible tokens (or NFTs). He wasn’t at all expecting that people online were actually going to buy his selfies and, in just three days, a whopping total of 331 NFTs were sold out.

In five days, his “Ghozali Everyday” collection had seen no less than 314 Ether (or ETH) in volume, equating to over USD 1 million (approximately PHP 51 million) according to OpenSea.

He expressed his shock in a tweet and pleaded to all those who bought his selfies to use them responsibly.

“It’s been 3 days and left 331 NFT sold out now because for the next few years, I won’t be listing,” he wrote. “You can do anything like flipping or whatever but please don’t abuse my photos or my parents will be very disappointed in me. I believe in you guys so please take care of my photos.”

The 933 photos, taken from 2017 to 2021, were all supposed to be for a video he was going to release on his graduation day, with the last selfie being taken during the ceremony.
