Kris Aquino surprised all her fans, friends, and followers on Monday, January 3, when she had apparently deleted every photo and video she took with her fiancé Mel Sarmiento. Social media immediately went abuzz with speculations that the two had broken up. Now, Kris has finally broken her silence to confirm the news.
“For once, hindi mahaba ang caption. Lahat po klaro, nasa carousel of artcards, pics, and screenshots na. #truth #faith #peaceofmind #peaceinmyheart,” she wrote in the caption of her post, which included a screenshot of a longer statement, photos of her being taken care of by nurses, and a screenshot of Mel’s long text message to her.
Kris revealed that her health “has continued to deteriorate” and that she will soon be flying abroad to get help in treating her existing autoimmune conditions. In light of this, she sadly confirmed that she had to “end this chapter” with Mel and will no longer be speaking about him and their relationship “to preserve whatever dignity” she has left.
According to the text message of Mel which she shared publicly, he spent time to assess the circumstances surrounding Kris’ health and the “enormous responsibility” of ensuring she is kept safe especially from COVID-19. However, he admitted that it was a task too much to bear, considering that he often goes out of the house, and thus decided to accept Kris’ offer to part ways.
“For the past two days, I had enough time to think about things and accepted the fact that ensuring you don’t get COVID is an enormous responsibility. Given my nature, who loves to go out, I accept the fact that I already have a bubble fatigue and I will not be able to, sad to say, continue living in a bubble,” he wrote. “On that note, with a heavy heart, I accepted you offer of letting me go. For I cannot in conscience be able to accept that something will happen to you brought about my going out of the bubble.”
Mel then told her that he will always cherish their times together and that he will always love her, but that they must say goodbye in order to save her life.
Kris ended her statement on the breakup by saying: “I request for some respect for my humanity & privacy now and in the coming months when I fight for my health… because I was BRAVE enough to show you and tell you the TRUTH.”
