On Saturday, March 13, fans discovered that the “Without Me” hitmaker changed their bio on Twitter and Instagram to indicate their new pronouns, “She/They,” which many praised her for, particularly for inspiring others to have the confidence to express themselves no matter what anyone else may say. Halsey specifying her new pronouns means that she may be referred to as either “she” or “they” when spoken about in the third person.

In response to the outpouring of support and gratitude, Halsey shared an Instagram story on the same day that simply read “thank you” with a red heart emoji.

The 26-year-old has opened up about their sexuality before, coming out as bisexual in 2015.

“I’m a young, bisexual woman, and I’ve spent a large part of my life trying to validate myself — to my friends, to my family, to myself — trying to prove that who I love and how I feel is not a phase,” she told fans in a video message in 2018. “It’s not part of some confusion that’s going to change or could be manipulated. So I tried really hard to find the courage this year to write female pronouns into my music.”

Halsey is also expecting their first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin soon.
