This group of calculus students lets young scientists launch things into space for science

Ever wondered if an egg could survive space? Well, now you can try! This group of high school calculus students, under the mentorship of their professor Dr. Phillips, have been working with young scientists (a lot of kids!) to see how certain objects behave in the stratosphere. They take photos with the camera attached to their balloon and follow the trajectory of where the object lands when it goes back down to the Earth.

Just about a month ago, they released eggs into space asking if eggs make good spacesuits. Their FREELIFT balloon program for young students helped make this happen for the curious, young mind and the two eggs made it over 100,000 feet before the balloon popped and the eggs landed back on Earth via a parachute. The eggs were launched again and, despite coming lose from the container, they didn’t crack.

What a way to motivate young minds! Kudos to you guys for what you’re doing!
