It Looks Like There’s Going to be a Spider-Woman Movie

Spider Woman

Comic fans, we have great news for you: Sony is developing a new Marvel movie focusing on a female character.

Deadline reports that it is expected to be about Spider-Woman. Actress Olivia Wilde, who made her directing debut with Booksmart, will direct the movie.

Wilde tweeted the news, with a cryptic spider emoji.

Since Sony will be producing the still-untitled film, it’s interesting if and how it will tie to the studio’s other Spider-Man titles, including Venom, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Morbius.

There have been several Spider-Womans in Marvel history, including Jessica Drew, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, Charlotte Witter, Veranke, and more. Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s love interests, have also become Spider-Woman at some point.

There’s no word yet when this version will be released.
