LOOK: Stop Praising ‘Filipino Resilience,’ Says Slater Young

Ex-Pinoy Big Brother housemate, Slater Young, has a message to all those who keep crediting people’s perseverance through a public health crisis to “Filipino resilience.”

On Twitter, the 32-year-old social media personality said this to his over 700K followers: “Can we please stop glorifying Filipino resilience? The most “resilient“ among us have it the hardest. Nobody wants to have to be resilient. Let’s stop romanticizing it.”

This comes after Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque expressed gladness over how “only” 45% of Filipinos became unemployed during the five-month quarantine, adding that he was “surprised at our resilience.”

Slater also reacted to how Roque said that the situation “could have been worse” with a follow-up tweet:

4″5% pa lang? It could be worse. Oh 60% na? It could be worse. 80%??? It could still be worse. “It could be worse” is an excuse. “It could be better” is being accountable,” he said.

Slater is currently quarantining at his home with wife Kryz Uy and their newborn son Scott Knoa.
