The battle against COVID-19 continues but it seems that some countries are handling it better than others. Still, it gives everyone hope.
New Zealand has discharged its has last COVID-19 patient, which means nobody is in the hospital with the new coronavirus. Additionally, the nation has not recorded a new case for five days, the health ministry said on Wednesday.
The last COVID-19 hospital patient was discharged in Auckland. This was a huge success for New Zealand and its widely-praised response to the outbreak.
The country has verified its first case on February 26. By March 19, it had already closed all of its borders. By March 26, it began imposing a full-scale lockdown.
With this, it is possible that the lockdown could be virtually scrapped within weeks, with gatherings of up to 100 already permitted and plans being made to re-open travel to Australia.
The country has a little over 1,500 total cases infections and it has not increased since last Friday. On the other hand, the death toll of 21 has not increased since May 6. All 21 deaths included people aged 60 or over, while more than half of them are aged above 80, and four of them in their nineties.
At present, there are only 21 infections in the country. None of them are sick enough to require hospital care.
