Uh Oh, It Looks Like We’re Going to Have to Wait Much Longer for That ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot

Sorry, Upper East Siders. It seems that we’re going to have to wait much longer for the Gossip Girl reboot we’ve been eagerly looking forward to.

The new series, originally scheduled to premiere later this year, has been moved to 2021 due to the production delays caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“They hadn’t even started production yet; they were in pre-production and ready to roll,” said HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly to Vulture. It wasn’t revealed when they plan to commence shooting.

The Gossip Girl reboot, which will be written by former showrunner Joshua Safran, will take place eight years after the original blog site was taken down. It will follow a new group of New York private school teens who are tormented by their own Gossip Girl and the added drama of social media.

It’s unknown if the original cast members, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, and Ed Westwick, will return to reprise their roles. However, it’s confirmed that Kristen Bell will once again lend her voice as the narrator of the series.
