125 Immigration Officers at NAIA Get Tested for COVID-19

According to the Bureau of Immigration, 125 immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) have recently been tested for COVID-19.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente shares that they used rapid antibody-based testing for this with hopes of curbing the spread of the coronavirus. He adds, “We are targeting to roll out mass testing among our frontline officers who are one of the most at risk in contracting this virus, being the first that international travelers encounter during their arrival in the country.”

They also intend to test more immigration offices around the country to secure the safety and health or our people.

Morente also shares that the officers that they recently tested all tested negative for COVID-19. Morente assures that they won’t be lowering their guard despite the negative results, though. “We have strict protocols in the use of PPEs in the conduct of our officers’ duties, as well as the implementation of strict social distancing in all our offices,” he shares.

Last month, 206 immigration officers at NAIA and 150 staff members at the BI’s main office also all tested negative for COVID-19.
