An unfortunate effect of Metro Manila’s enhanced community quarantine is the sudden loss of livelihood for countless people. One group, in particular, are displaced tricycle drivers who are unable to work with the suspension of public transportation.
Now, a number of initiatives are being introduced to afford these tricycle drivers a source of income.

One is the partnership between the City of Manila and Food Panda. The courier service will be hiring 500 drivers for food deliveries within Manila for the next 2 months.
These drivers will receive appropriate training, uniforms, and thermo bags from Food Panda. They will also be given the option to continue working for the company beyond the 2-month period.
Another initiative is a project of the Office of the Vice President in partnership with the Quezon City local government. Their app-based delivery service for small-scale vendors will be utilizing QC’s tricycle drivers as couriers.
“The concept is you will download an app on your phones and order online then someone will receive it in the market. Then it will be delivered to you on the same day, but the tricycle drivers will deliver your purchase,” Vice President Leni Robredo explained.
