The Makati City government has issued a warning against a gated subdivision who has been allowing its residents to go out of their homes to exercise.
In a report by Inquirer, the Bel-Air Village Association Inc. had received a cease and desist order last May 2 regarding its “Revised Policy on Walking, Jogging and Biking Within Bel-Air Village for Exercise Purposes.”
“While we believe that our recent policy provides sufficient safeguards to prevent the possible transmission of the coronavirus, which is what the national guidelines seek to prevent, we have to abide with the city administrator’s letter until we are able to convince the authorities that we have not violated any law, regulations or guidelines,” a new memo they issued to residents read.
Bel-Air Village had confirmed that it had relaxed its quarantine policy last week since there were no persons under investigation and persons under monitoring within the subdivision. Under the policy, residents were allowed to “walk (with or without dogs), jog or bike within the village solely for exercise purposes” provided that they did so only along their street of residence, observed a 3-meter distance from neighbors, wore protective masks, and limited their activities to 45 minutes per day.
However, the policy went against the rules of the enhanced community quarantine wherein “The only persons allowed to leave their residences are those who will go out to buy essential supplies and those who are exempted because of their work or functions,” said Makati legal chief Michael Camiña. “Recreational activities are not among the list of exemptions.”
