Amid all the bad news, here’s some good news: Researchers in the US are now giving the first shots of an experimental COVID-19 vaccine. Last Monday, TIME reported that scientists in Seattle are now at the first stage of developing a potential COVID-19 vaccine.

In the tweet above, they show a video of the first volunteer in Seattle getting the shot of the experimental vaccine. In the video, volunteer Jennifer Haller said, “Everybody is feeling so helpless right now. And I realized there was something that I could do to help.”

The trial vaccine, developed by the NIH and Massachusetts-based biotechnology company Moderna Inc, is code-named mRNA-1273. The report adds that the shots cannot infect the participants because they don’t contain the virus.
This experimental vaccine is to be tested on 45 participants, and they are paid 100 US Dollars per clinic visit. However, researchers say that even if the vaccine goes well, it won’t be widely available for another 12-18 months.
