UST-MAM 2020: continuing the ASEAN Way in its 6th year

For fostering diplomatic skills, engagement with students from different schools, and building one’s leadership capabilities-look no further because UST Model ASEAN Meeting 2020 has it all and more!

In the world we live in, there are numerous problems to address and challenges as a region that we have to face. These could range from food insecurity, ineffective economic policies, health issues-and many more-that transcend national borders. As a region that believes in cooperation and community mobilization, passiveness and inclusivity should not be condoned. Since the year 2015, UST-MAM has been serving as an avenue for students to speak up about pressing global issues and at the same time, learn more about ASEAN, its member states, and their stances for certain matters.

Model ASEAN Meetings are interactive and educational simulations of the actual ASEAN proceedings. Participants can learn about the basics of diplomacy while also developing their public speaking, leadership, and decision-making skills. In addition to that, participants can enjoy an all-new and different experience that only UST Model ASEAN Meeting can offer.

In 2020, UST-MAM continues the legacy as it enters its 6th year. The event will be held at the University of Santo Tomas, Espana, Manila. The theme for this year’s UST-MAM will be: “ASEAN 2025: Synergistic Community Mobilization and Sustainable Resource Allocation through Regional Cooperation.” Participants were chosen from a pool of applicants, ranging from undergraduate students within the locality and from overseas. The delegates are tasked to represent an ASEAN member state and are encouraged to participate actively through producing viable solutions and engaging with other delegates.

UST-MAM is part of a week-long event held annually by the Asian Studies Society entitled “One With ASEAN”. The event will feature a cultural exposition program, wherein students under the Asian Studies program of University of Sto. Tomas will set up booths representing ASEAN countries. The event will be held on January 30 to February 1, 2020.
