In Quezon City, the amount of recorded HIV cases has risen to 505 this year with 486 men and 19 women infected between January and July 2019. Out of the 505 cases, 321 were said to have been transmitted via sex between two men, 61 via sex between a man and a woman, and 116 through men having sex with both men and women. As for the reasons behind the amount of HIV cases, ‘high risky sexual behavior’ and ‘very low use of condoms or protective behavior’ have been stated.
Because of this, the Zero at 2030 campaign was launched yesterday with hopes of stopping the spread of HIV. To do this, the program will go through three stages: Prevention, Control, and Treatment.
The goal is to have 90% of local residents with HIV know their status, 90% of those who are HIV positive to get treatment, and 90% of those on treatment to stay treated. Through this program, there will hopefully be no more new cases, no more HIV-related deaths, and no more discrimination by 2030.
