“Raya and the Last Dragon” tells the story of a warrior on a quest to find the last dragon. Though set in a fantasy world, it is said to be heavily influenced by Southeast Asian themes and cultures. The world as they know it is called Lumandra, “a reimagined earth inhabited by an ancient civilization.” Here, the hero (Raya) will be driven by a need to save her kingdom which can presumably only be done with the magic of a dragon.

For Steele, “Sharing Raya was just amazing because I feel like she’s really a breakthrough character in terms of being female and being empowered, being a warrior and being badass, and it’s just such an honor to play her.”

Steele will be starring alongside Crazy Rich Asians’ Awkwafina. Screenwriter Adele Lim, who also worked on CRA, is the writer behind this epic fantasy. The project will be lead by Paul Briggs as director.
