So… Harry Styles was Cast as Prince Eric in ‘The Little Mermaid’, But Turned it Down

Last month, the Internet (okay, fine… the Directioners on the Internet) went wild when news spread that Harry Styles might play Prince Eric in the live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’. Well, just yesterday, Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres both tweeted that Harry had ultimately bagged the role!!! Sadly, it turns out he won’t be playing Prince Eric, after all.

The tweets have since been deleted; and reports say that while Harry really was offered the role earlier today, he respectively passed on it.

Although Prince Eric didn’t have any songs in the animated Disney movie back in 1989, the live-action movie will reportedly have songs for him in it – and composed by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, to boot! Even if Prince Eric doesn’t sing in the live-action movie, though; just thinking about Harry’s hair blowing in the wind with waves surrounding him was enough to make us root for him.

So far, the official cast members of ‘The Little Mermaid’ include Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Javier Bardem is currently in talks to play King Triton.

Who do you think should play Prince Eric in the live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’?
