“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” – Howard Zinn.

CATALYST is inviting students in high school and college around Metro Manila to its conference I Serve To Change (ISC) happening this November 17, 2018 at the University of Asia and the Pacific.

CATALYST of UA&P is a socio-civic organization centered on empowering the youth. It stands with the three pillars of leadership, outreach, and advocacy. The organization believes that these three are relevant in forming the youth today to think critically, to make informed decisions, and to better the lives of others.

The organization’s I Change Series has expanded every year with different themes and lessons to impart to its audience. Last year, CATALYST of UA&P hosted I Connect To Change, an I Change conference that focused on the responsible use of technology and various forms of media.

This year, I Serve to Change will focus primarily on the youth’s involvement in service. This service can be embodied at home, at school, and even the nation at large. Proper civic engagement will be tackled in the event, as well as using media as a new platform for service.

This project aims to shed light on the true meaning of service and its relevance. Service comes in various forms, which allows an individual to impact the lives of other people in his own distinct way. Moreover, an act of service entails one to have commitment and willingness. This project aims to remind the youth as well as the teachers that service is not defined by a single act, rather, it is a continuous and life-long process.

All these will be done through the talks given by speakers who have had experience serving in their own fields. One of the speakers is veteran GMA News Anchor Raffy Tima. In 2004, he was recognized as the most outstanding news producer for covering that year’s general elections. Currently, he is working as an anchor on a noontime programme on GMA News TV called Balitanghali, and a public affairs show called 100% Pinoy.

Another speaker is Mann Rentoy. Mann Rentoy is the founding director of the first PAREF school outside of Luzon – PAREF Westbridge in Iloilo City from 1992-1994, the founding moderator of school organizations such as CATALYST of UA&P, UA&P’s Creative Writers’ Guild, and the founding president of Character Education Partnership Philippines.

The last speaker is Regina Banson. She is currently the Vice President and Director of A.T. De Castro Securities Corporation, an organization which administers security brokerage services. Furthermore, she is also the overseer of Feeding Metro Manila, an organization which aims to support those who do not have the means to feed themselves.

CATALYST will also be administering a L.I.V.E. seminar after the event, where there will be activities for the students to apply what they have learned in the event. The organization does this for a more sustainable and lasting impact on its participants.

Currently, we have a flash sale rate for both Public and Private high schools for just PHP150. The walk-in rates of the conference are priced at PHP200 for Public School students and PHP250 for Private School students.
