AWWW: This passenger switched places with his taxi driver, and here’s WHY!

Driving can be very tiresome considering the congested traffic in Manila, especially if it’s something you do for a living.

Passenger Allan Yumul Jr. is one of the many Filipinos that takes taxis daily. One trip just recently would mark as one of the most memorable and unforgettable trips where he volunteered to drive instead of being the passenger.

WHEN IN MANILA was able to reach out to Yumul for further details.

We were 5 big guys who went for a food trip in Binondo, Manila last Sunday. After an afternoon of eating, walking and shopping, we went to Lucky China Town to watch a movie, but unfortunately we didn’t find a film we liked, so we decided to go home instead. We booked a taxi with multiple stops.  One of us took the passenger seat in front, then two at the second row and then two at the back. Yung isa naming kasama, natural joker ‘yun.

But at our first stop (Earnshaw), two of our friends went down already, which included Jhayson (the joker). It became quiet and no one was joking around anymore. So from that stop, tumahimik bigla. Our friend in the front passenger seat started to snore – he probably fell asleep because it was quiet.

On our way to our second stop namin, someone called up Sir Wilbert. We overheard that he was going to meet up with someone going home since he was asked where he was and what time he was going home. He replied that he was still in Manila and he was bound to drop off us his passenger to Pasig, then Angono.

Ako na lang natirang gising kaya napansin ko mabagal siya magdrive at puro buntong-hininga. Somewhere in Manila or QC na siguro yun when he pulled over and said inaantok siya.

Gusto ko na din makauwi at makauwi ng buhay.  So I offered to drive so he can rest and take a power nap.

Nakarating kami sa second stop para ibaba yung isang friend, then proceeded na sa last stop, sa bahay. All the while natutulog si driver sa Sir Wilbert sa likod at humihilik pa. Sa sobrang pagod niya hindi siya nagigising sa mga bako at uka na nadadaanan namin.

When we arrived at home, I woke him up so that I could pay and we assured him that it was okay to park somewhere near our place so that he could take a couple of more minutes to rest before he drives up to Angono.

We just wanted to get home alive but the gesture turned out to be more than just getting home safe.
