In the months leading up to Prince Harry’s and Meghan Markle’s big day (announced to be on May 19, 2018, in case you were wondering), it’s only natural, expected, even, for there to be growing public interest surrounding the wedding’s details, including the dress Meghan will be wearing.
Wedding dresses have always been one of the most anticipated tidbits in a royal wedding, despite the discretion Buckingham Palace has carried with planning these affairs. Fans eagerly anticipate leaked royal sketches and potential wedding dress designers, spawning numerous copycats in fashion houses around the world — just look at Kate Middleton’s Cinderella-eque Alexander McQueen dress and Princess Di’s iconic lace and taffeta gown.
Entertainment website TMZ caught wind of leaked wedding dress sketches by Israeli designer Inbal Dror on Monday, a surprise considering that British royal weddings have typically favored British designers. The sketches showed body-hugging ensembles, a departure from the A-line silhouettes of usual royal brides, only sticking to tradition with long sleeves.
According to TMZ, Dror confirmed she was contacted by the Royal Family about possibly dressing Meghan for the big day with Prince Harry, but kept mum on the details as it was a “secret”.
This isn’t a done deal, however. Dror, who dressed Beyoncé last year for the Grammys, will be competing with other top-tier designers on who finally gets to dress Meghan for the big day.
