The slow crawl to the end of a semester is usually punctuated by teachers awarding students who have excelled. Whether it’s in certain subjects or in terms of good qualities like cleanliness or initiative, being recognized for your achievements always feels good. But this teacher took a different approach for one of his students and hilarity ensued when this student was given her moment in the spotlight, too!

In a post on “Student Secret Files” on Facebook, a student hilariously recounts how she wasn’t expecting to receive an award and that the first time her teacher brought it up, she thought it was a joke.

Loko si sir akala ko nagjojoke [lang] na may makukuha akong award. Hanggang ngayon [di] pa din ako makapaniwala. Sobrang proud ako sa sarili ko (I thought sir was joking about giving me an award. Until now I can’t believe it. I’m so proud of myself.),” the student writes.

Turns out it wasn’t a joke and she came home with a certificate and everything! This student happily played along, taking it in jest, thanking the different people in her life who aided in her tardiness.

She thanks her mother who would always wake up and cook breakfast late, her father who would take his time handing over their allowance, her sister who would take her sweet time in the bathroom, and the jeepney driver who would always stop to carry gas even though she was late already.

Congratulations to you, ate!
