One of the things that makes us proud as Filipinos is the fact that our beauty queens take home crowns in almost every international pageant. Just recently, another pageant took place, proving once again how beautiful, smart, and talented Filipinas are.
The 10th Miss Silka Philippines pageant took place on November 17 at Market, Market in Taguig City, where Miss Silka Baguio, Andrea Fe Gomez, took home the title and was crowned Miss Silka Philippines 2017.
Curious how she nailed it? As part of the audience, there’s so much to say! The way she walked was as if she was ready for the crown. She looked stunning in her yellow evening gown, even winning the Best in Evening Wear award. Her graceful entrances were met with wild applause from the audience which was screaming her name.
Not only that, her answer in the Q&A was the bomb! Ms. Kris Tiffany Janson, 2nd runner-up of Miss Intercontinental 2014 asked her, “With the rise of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more, what is the biggest change that social media has brought into our lives?”

Gomez confidently answered:
“Although social media has brought us closer, and has made our world smaller and fit into our phones, I’ve noticed that when we go out with our family or friends, we sit down for dinner, or when we just want to hang out with them, we’re always on our phones. We end up not speaking to them and not bonding with them, and that’s really sad. And I think because of social media, it’s alienated our close relationships and we need to change that. We should put our phones down and we should know when to check for our statuses, when to look at our feeds, and when to bond with the people around us.”
I couldn’t agree more! Indeed, it was very well said that made the whole activity center applaud.

As the grand winner, Gomez will have the chance to pick a charity and donate P100,000 and get a shot at stardom. She will take the crown from Katrina Anne Johnson, who reigned as Miss Silka Philippines last year.
Before this national pageant, Miss Silka pageants were held in different provinces in search for the best of the best to compete in the grand coronation. The rest of the candidates did awesome!

Awards were also given to Ervas for Best in Casual Wear; Miss Silka Zamboanga Aijeleth Myrizza Borja for Best in Talent and the Popular Choice Award; Miss Silka Dumaguete Spring Ann Nagle for Miss Congeniality; Miss Silka Bohol Sheena Marie Francesca Licong for the Juicy Cologne Award; Miss Silka Caraga Dannielle Nichole Jabanero for Best in Swimsuit; Miss Silka Cebu Nicole Borromeo for Miss Photogenic; and Gomez for Best in Evening Wear.

Sighted in the event were Sam Concepcion, who serenaded the lovely top 10 candidates; and Yassi Pressman, Silka’s current endorser. The pageant was hosted by host Mikael Daez and Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa.
Pageants are a source of national pride for the Philippines. Our love and support for contests like Miss Silka inspire more women to prove that Filipinas are beautiful, both inside and out.
