Imelda Schweighart has resigned from her post as Miss Philippines – Earth 2016, according to local reports.
A report from ABS-CBN said that Imelda and her mom met with executives of Carousel Productions, the group behind the Miss Earth tilt earlier today. The resignation was accepted at 5:52 pm.
The voluntary resignation came after Imelda’s mother was reportedly worried by the heavy bashing her daughter received on social media.
As a result of her resignation, first-runner up Kiara Giel Gregorio will fulfill all of Schweighart’s remaining obligations.
Gregorio, who joined as a representative of the Filipino community in London, is a pre-law student.
Imelda made headlines earlier after her controversial “Hitler” remarks with Miss Austria. The Philippine representative failed to make the top 16 in this year’s pageant, with Miss Ecuador taking the top spot.
