MakeSense Event at A Space Makati: MKS Room – Food Security

FOODSECURITY F-1

Are you into live music and interested in learning about social innovations working on problems you care about?

MakeSense, a community of more than 20,000 volunteers around the world who help social entrepreneurs solve their challenges, is putting on an event this Thursday, March 10 that you won’t want to miss!

Last week, MakeSense launched a global mobilization campaign on food security. MakeSense community leaders around the world are bringing together experts, volunteers, artists and other actors who are ready to create change, from our farms to our tables. Anyone can join – including you!

To celebrate the global launching of this food security mobilization as has been done in Paris, Dakar, and soon Lima, MakeSense Manila is hosting a “MKS Room” this Thursday to bring action to the Philippines!

Details:

What: MKS Room – Food Security

When: Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 7pm

Where: A Space, 110 Legazpi Street, Makati

Who: Free event for anyone to join

What is a MKS Room? MKS Rooms are live events that blend musical and cultural performances and discussions with social entrepreneurs. Imagine a mix between a concert and a panel discussion! Through these creative mediums, MKS Rooms aim to promote social entrepreneurship among new audiences. Each event is centered on a specific cause with the goal of generating attention, fostering exchanges, and creating traction towards positive change.

In this case, the positive change MakeSense is working towards is reinventing food systems and achieving zero hunger, healthier people, and a healthier planet.

Currently:

– 850 million people around the world suffer from under-nutrition, yet..
– 1.2 billion people are overweight or obese.
– 1.3 billon tons of food are wasted each year – meaning that 30% of the total worldwide annual production is wasted.

Our system is in crisis, but we have the power to take action!

Join us this Thursday, March 10 at beautiful A Space Manila for a discussion with inspiring social entrepreneurs and fantastic live music. Guests will be:

♫ Guest artist + panelists: Amalia and Benito, a musical duo which will be enchanting with us the piano, drums, and their voices. They are also co-founders of Kayumanggi Organics, which produces proudly Filipino, sustainable and healthy products.

► Rachel De Villa, CTO & Founder of Cropital, the first crowd-funding platform to invest in farmers, who was recently named to Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia.

► Melanie Sacay – Founder of Aquaponics Philippines, which supports the growth of aquaponics throughout the country through guides, tutorials, and resources.

► Virginia Benosa-Llorin- Food For Life Campaigner at Greenpeace Philippines, which campaigns for behavior change and political action on food security.

This panel discussion and concert event is completely free – though, as an agriculture-focused event, expect to find delicious products for sale.
