Bus Robbery in Manila: Bus Drivers and Conductors Too Afraid to Act

 

Last year, I was robbed inside the bus by 5 men took my Galaxy Note tablet when I was at Gil Puyat in Makati. I still remember the fear, pain and anger I felt during and right after the incident. 

Today, I saw this post on Facebook from Renz Sevilla who also had a traumatic experience while inside a Jayross Bus with License Plate UVL 147. Fortunately, he is safe. However, I think our local bus companies like Jayross and the local government should seriously look into these incidents as it will surely cause more public distrust in public transportation.

Here’s that bus robbery story:

Dear friends and family, last night I was robbed by 4 thieves on a bus. They only took my phone and I’m alive and well which I’m thankful for. The Jayross Lucky Seven Bus Line. 714716 License Plate UVL 147, along Pasay going north via Edsa, was the bus I rode that didn’t even bother to help me when I caught two of the thieves in the act and the other 2 began to attack me. I told the bus driver and conductor to not let anyone down and make sure we stop at a Police station. They ignored me watched me get robbed, let the thieves off the bus even if I blocked the doorway, and then told me “Baka balikan kasi kami” (They might come back for us.) In my mind I was frustrated, annoyed, and disappointed no one came to my aid even when I had the thieves in my grasp. The bus driver and conductor didn’t even seem to care. I’ve lost faith in the public transportation system and the safety of the public is in question. So please pass and share this message as far as you can get it. Keep safe people. God Bless.

I really hope Jayross and our local government will take action on this matter. We all deserve to be safe when in Manila!
